On July 30th, 2010, Margaret A. Hamburg, Commissioner of Food and Drugs announced the Re-opening of some Louisiana State Waters to commercial fishing.
Is it too soon? Or about time?
Have you found data to prove otherwise?
What other considerations should be taken into account?
I attended FPRW (Fl Pesticide Residue Workshop) in St Pete, Fl during w/o 7/19. A presentation given by Ed Overton, retired from LSU, who is heavily involved with evaluation and testing, made presentation about the total spill and one facet was no reported PAH's found in any marine life for consumption. Unless this has changed and I have not heard or seen reporting to the contrary, I would coincide with the decision to open fishing, particular since the season for shrimp starts in a few days. People need to be given the opportunity to begin earning income.
