Cyanides treatment

Hallo everybody!

 

Thank you for joining this group; which was founded to start discussions about wastewater treatment.

 

In September I started a new job, which consists in the optimization of a wastewater treatment plant of a small surface treatment enterprise located in France. The final target is to reach "zero-pollution" reject in two years. Unfortunately, in the streams are present Cr(VI), whose treatment was optimized last year with great results, discussed in an article submitted to IECR last june, and cyanides.

Cyanides seem to be the greater problem of the station, whose final reject presents high toxicity, and are treated with the classical oxidation by means of bleach. Since the presence of various metals, like copper and silver, which can form relatively stable complexes with cyanides, the final reject presents an average concentration of 0.2mg/L. Moreover, the bleach excess increases the toxicity. My opinion si to change the treatment, carrying out the process by means of hydrogen peroxide or other reagents.

 

Is there someone who can give interesting idea on the topic?
