    R&D LIBRARY GONE VIRTUAL- PRO'S VS. CON'S

    Michael Greenberg

Wrigley has let go our R&D librarian and all the journals have disappeared. None are being circulated. They are trying to line up a service which carries all the journals we use to receive so we can review them on line.

As a AGFD member, I still receive J.Agric Fd. Chem.  My C&E News which I use to get on line has suddenly stopped.

Who has gone through this type of transformation and how was it managed?

Add to the list of pro's and con's

      Pro's of going virtual

      1. Need not wait for journal to be circulated to your desk
      2. Immediate access
      3. Cost savings for company
      4. No grouchy librarian

      Con's of going virtual

      1. Eyes get tired reading everything on a computer
      2. No physical journal to write comments and pass along to a colleague
      3. No portability- can not read a journal on the train ride home
      4. Need to be on line

      PASS ALONG TO OTHERS!!!!
