What do you recommend? We'll have opportunities to get together.
Since I'm now a "local" I felt obligated to chime in! The Convention Center is surrounded by sooo many options. Several blocks away is the "16th Street Mall" which has a free shuttle (http://www.rtd-denver.com/FREEMallRide.shtml).
I don't spend tons of time downtown, but a few restaurants that have been suggested to me or I have enjoyed are:
Marlowe's (on 16th St Mall) http://www.marlowesdenver.com
Lime and Tamayo (both in Larimer Square, another fun spot) http://restaurants.larimersquare.com
India House (a little further out, but it was great) http://www.indiahouse.us
Wynkoop Brewing Company (on 18th St) is very popular, http://www.wynkoop.com/
Another brewery on the 16th St Mall is RockBottom Brewery, http://www.rockbottom.com/denver-downtown
Did a little more poking around and here are a few other sites that may be helpful:
Great interactive map on this one, http://www.experiencedowntowndenver.com
Supposedly can find locals' favorites here, http://www.wherethelocalseat.com
Other downtown info here, http://www.downtowndenver.com
You know how to reach me if you have any other specific questions!! ;-)
According to Anthony Bourdain, no, except for a hot-dog vendor as seen here. http://blogs.westword.com/cafesociety/2010/07/no_reservations_anthony_bourda.php
Want to hit the streets? Here's a good resource for street food and food trucks serving Denver:
Did you notice the "Denver Cupcake Truck" on that site? Their direct link is http://www.cake-crumbs.com and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/thedenvercupcaketruck
Haven't seen it in action, but I have friends who rave about the cupcakes! Want me to call them and ask them to bring their wares to the Convention Center one day to tempt thousands of chemists??!
They do mention baking being "scientific in nature" on their site! Hmmm...
These are great suggestions...and even better from a local. The cupcake truck sounds terrific, too! Good eats to all.
I second the restaurants Marisa noted. Here a couple more:
For best takeout or eat-in breakfast and lunch: The Market (1445) Larimer--just two blocks from free shuttle. FANTASTIC deli choice--locally owned.
The same Chef (Richar Sandoal) that does Tamayo has an Asian-Mexican Fusion place called Zengo's. Great for groups as they have a fabulous Tapas selection. 1610 Little Raven STreet. Take the free 16th street mall shuttle to the end and walk 2 blocks. 720 904 0965 to call for reservations.
I'll have more soon. Those of us living downtown have put together a list of our favorites and we'll have them at the hospitality booth.
Zengo's sounds great. I looked at the menu and the offerings are very tempting.
