DIRECTOR, INSTRUCTIONAL AND RESEARCH LABORATORIES
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Auburn University is
seeking candidates for the position of Director, Instructional & Research
Laboratories. The individual in this position will be responsible for the
overall operation, leadership, direction and administration of the laboratories
in accordance with governmental regulations. Essential functions include, but
are not limited to: 1) provision of data to governmental and scientific
organizations, 2) liaison with environmental, safety, risk management and
regulatory agencies, 3) management and reporting pertaining to the Chemistry
Building, its internal infrastructure and the Department's teaching and
research facilities, 4) administration of undergraduate laboratories, 5)
maintenance of records and updating of procedures pertaining to the graduate
program, 6) assembly and reporting of data pertaining to undergraduate degree
requirements, assessment, and accreditation standards, 7) coordination of
activities pertaining to graduate recruiting, undergraduate recruiting and
outreach. In many of these functions, the critical evaluation and responsible
reporting of data require advanced scientific knowledge and familiarity with
the educational purposes of research activities.
The minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in
Chemistry or a closely related field and 2 years experience in chemical
research and coordination of lab operations and procedures. Knowledge of
laboratory techniques and safety procedures is required. The ability to manage
many projects simultaneously is also required.
Desired qualifications are additional years of management experience related
to chemical research or instruction in a governmental, industrial or academic
environment; experience in environmental, safety and risk management;
experience in communication with federal funding agencies and professional
organizations; experience in management of facilities and infrastructure used
in chemical research or teaching; experience in management of instructional
programs and teaching laboratories; experience in the assembly and reporting of
data pertaining to research and teaching activities; and experience in the
coordination of student recruiting and outreach activities.
