I've just started researching alums for use in soapmaking and I have a specific question regarding potassium alum. My question has to do with the stability of this alum in an NaOh solution. What I would like to know is this, will the potassium ions remain in association with the aluminum silicate, or will these be displaced by Na in a strong NaOh solution during the soapmaking process? I am asking because potash lyes make soft soaps, so I'm wondering if using potash alum would create too soft a bar. Thanks for answering, much obliged!
