Hello-A scientist wants to heat Hexane in an incubator at 50C for 3 days. The Hexane will be used above its UEL. Is this safer than I'm thinking it is, is there a safe way to do this? Thanks,
What is the purpose of this experiment ? That is the question. I wouldn't think it was a great idea. Need some more specifics on what it was for. Right now, it would seem pointless, but I am sure I am missing some facts. Please elaborate.
Hi Brian, The purpose was to test how the hexane would interact with the container, they wanted to test a chemical with a low polarity. We decided to change the experiment due to safety concerns. We were mainly concerned that the vapors would be released and interact with the heating element in the incubator and cause an explosion. Now they are heating in a water bath inside of a chemical fume hood which I think is much safer. Thanks so much for your reply,
