Cyanide solutions

Question asked by Bradford Drake on Apr 4, 2018

Merck Index says water solutions of NaCN decompose.H2CO3 will create NaOCN NH3 Na2CO3 and free carbon. Will this be shifted to the left by adding about 6 grams extra NaOH per liter solution? NaOH reacts with H2CO3 to give H2O and Na2CO3..that wont react with NaCN.Also a brown polymer forms if PH is under adding this extra 6 gr naoh per liter h20 should keep PH over 12? Please refer me to a good inorganic book that deals with what CAN be done to slow down or stop decomposition of NaCN.
