Dr. Howard Peters and his wife Sally Peters, will be giving a presentation: “Chocolate: Food of the Gods”, on Wednesday, October 4th, at 7:00 p.m. Gonzaga University, Hughes Hall, Room 130. Chocolate samples will be provided during the presentation.

This fun presentation includes: 1. Some high points of the ancient history of chocolate and its production from the Mayan, Olmec, and Aztec cultures up to the present; 2. Aspects of the processing, fermenting, drying, roasting, conching, tempering, blending, and finishing of the cocoa pod, bean and pulp; 3. A little chemistry, biochemistry, and biology of chocolate and its active ingredients including theobroma cocoa (literally from the Greek - Food of the Gods); 4. Health aspects (flavanoids, polyphenols, and other anti-oxidants) showing that this exotic processed food is good for you; 5. Some trivial connections about chocolate.

At the conclusion of their presentation everyone who stays until the “bitter” end will be entered into a raffle to win a 10 –pound bar of Guittard dark “bittersweet” chocolate.
