The Senior Chemists Committee (SCC) serves ACS members over the age of 50. Our mission is to address and support the needs and ambitions of senior chemists and to utilize their experience and knowledge for chemists of all ages. The SCC ACS Network provides a platform for communications between ACS members on topics of interest to senior chemists. Anybody can post or comment. If you have a question for senior chemists, post it in the Forum. Announcements and opinions are best posted in the Blog. If you want to share documents or links, choose the Knowledge Base. It’s a great day to make your first post and start collecting badges!

As the new, incoming SCC Chair, I wish to render Happy New Year salutations to all Senior Chemists. May 2022 be the best year ever for everyone and may we see COVID19 and its variants decline to negligible levels. I also wish to acknowledge the previous Chair, Dr. Arlene Garrison, for her wisdom and guidance the last three years. We are never too old to learn and share new ideas, knowledge, insight, and experiences. Therefore, I wish to encourage all Senior Chemists to post interesting and engaging questions and comments on this site. I will begin with what I hope to be a rhetorical question with expected humorous responses. “How many Senior Chemists does it take to screw in a light bulb?”. One possible answer – “Zero. That’s a job for a graduate student”.

Thank you to the more than 300 attendees who joined us for the SCC Coffee Social "Post-COVID Chemistry Economy and DEIR Updates." We were delighted to host this event in collaboration with the ACS Development Office in lieu of our planned Breakfast speaker at the Fall 2021 Atlanta National Meeting. The recording of the webinar is now available from a link on the Senior Chemists web page at ACS Senior Chemists - American Chemical Society. While you are on the page, look around and see the many activities of the Senior Chemists Committee.
Please plan to join us for our Tuesday morning breakfast speakers at each ACS National meeting. Given the strong interest in an online mode that allows a wider audience, we are considering sharing future breakfast speakers via webinar. Let us know what you think by comments here or email to email@example.com .
