The ACS Northern Oklahoma Section works to further science in Bartlesville, Ponca City, and the local communities in the region. A major emphasis of the section is to support science education through annual outreach activities such as the science fair, National Chemistry Week, Energy Days, the National Chemistry Olympiad, grants to local schools and libraries, and awards for student achievement. The section also recognizes professional scientific and engineering excellence by sponsoring the annual Oklahoma Chemist Award and the J.C. Mihm award.
