'Sensitivity to Aluminum' test of Aurin Tricarboxylic Acid
I am writing to inquire about 'Sensitivity to Aluminum' test described in the Aurin Tricarboxylic Acid monograph. Specifically, I have questions regarding the following procedure;
"Add 0.1 mL of this solution and 0.1 mL of acetic acid to 10 mL of a solution containing 0.001 mg of aluminum ion (Al)."
It is regarding the phrase "a solution containing 0.001 mg of aluminum ion (Al)".
Q1: Is it correct that the solution contains 0.001 mg of Al ions in 10 mL (meaning it has 0.0001 mg of Al ions in 1 mL)?
Q2: Should we prepare the solution following the preparation method outlined in the ACS <Control Solution> general chapter below and then dilute it 100 times using only water? Or is there any separate preparation method?
- 0.01 mg of Al in 1 mL - Dissolve 0.100 g of metallic aluminum in 10 mL of dilute hydrochloric acid (1:1), and dilute with water to 100 mL. To 10 mL of this solution, add 25 mL of dilute hydrochloric acid (1:1), and dilute with water to 1 L.
