Can processes and chemicals be green but not sustainable? Can processes and chemicals be sustainable but not green? What are some half-way measures that are temporary solutions on the way to being green and sustainable?

In the areas of industrial cleaning processes, some manufacturers use solvents (not green) in closed loop processes that minimize exposure to people and the environment and minimize waste.  These processes are sustainable but not green.  An example of a green but not sustainable process is cleaning laundry with green detergents that are safe for the environment.  Since the process is not close-looped, too much water enters our wastewater streams making it an unsustainable process, especially on a global basis.  Sometimes, we cannot be green and sustainable, but when is one way better than the other?  Well....it depends....
