My question will tell you that I'm not a chemist but I'm very interested in science and this has bothered me for several weeks. I was attempting to remove rust from a tool using a vinegar and (iodized) salt bath in a glass bowl and let it sit too long. Weeks later when I looked at it, it had completely evaporated and a rust colored, salty looking crust had formed both inside AND OUTSIDE the bowl I was using. How did it get outside the bowl? I've attached a picture.
