Potassium and the human body.

Okay, this question is admittedly gruesome, a bit ridiculous, and perhaps distasteful but please bear with me. I am writing a sci-fi novel where a particularly brutal, sadistic, and evil character uses potassium bullets to demoralize his enemies. A unique weapon can make a character more interesting (though it shouldn't be the foundation of the character) like Anton Chigur using a captive bolt gun in "No Country For Old Men."  or the Feral Kid's metal boomerang from "Mad Max 2"

My question is if these rounds would detonate after entering a living body, or if they would just burn because there is too little oxygen in a living body to react with the hydrogen?
