Hello.
I want to find a product that can replace Pyrogallol acid in an acid-based product.
The basis for this need is that Pyrogallol have mutagenic hazards.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrogallol
Hope someone can help me with this question!
Without more information on specifications for the requirements of the acid I would recommend acetic acid or hydrochloric acid which are much lower cost and much more commonly used in industrial manufacturing. If the acid must be structurally similar to Pyrogallol Acid, then I would suggest Phenol (Carbolic Acid).
Thank you for your reply Mr. Gebert!
I'll look into your suggestions.
I would need more information on the application before suggesting an alternative.
Can you provide information on the product which contains pyrogallol?
If you don't need the third hydroxyl functionality there is always Catechol, or Resorcinol which have two hydroxyls in the ortho- and meta positions respectively and the benzene ring. Resorcinol is used in a fair number of commercial products already and is fairly inexpensive.
Go to http://isciencesearch.com/issl and search for similar alcohols. I would first look for alcohols with similar physical properties. When you have found suitable replacements use the predction of biological activities in the result page, and see if there is an alhohol that has no pa>0.1 for mutagenicity.
