UCF Marketing Student - Chemistry-Related Question for Project!

Hi everyone! For starters, I do not have a chemistry-related background (so bear with me haha). I am a Marketing student at UCF and am currently working on a Product Management project. My group wants to "create" a hand sanitizer product. Specifically, hand sanitizing strips (thin sheets), that turn into hand sanitizer when you rub the sheet between your hands.

Does anyone know if this COULD be possible? Can the alcohol-based sheet, turn to a liquid, or breakdown, using the friction heat of your hands?

For the purposes of a theoretical marketing plan development, it doesn't really matter.  You can make whatever assumptions you might like. In reality, you would need to know quite a bit more about the process than simply whether it is even possible or not.

Best regards,

Steven

Re: UCF Marketing Student - Chemistry-Related Question for Project!

Hey there

It's awesome to see such diverse expertise coming together. Tcg527, I totally get where you're coming from – chemistry can be a bit of a puzzle if you're not accustomed to it. Kudos to you, a Marketing student, delving into the science world for your project!

Regarding your hand sanitizing strips idea, it sounds intriguing! While I'm not a chemist myself, I've heard that some materials can undergo changes due to friction-generated heat. Transforming an alcohol-based sheet into a liquid sanitizer through rubbing does have some potential. But there might be challenges, like ensuring controlled release and maintaining effectiveness.

In my limited experience, collaborating closely with a chemistry whiz might be your golden ticket. Teamwork brings the best of both worlds – your marketing insight and their scientific expertise. Also, considering the environmental aspect of the sheets would be fantastic! Since you are a marketing student, I might suggest another research topic for you: AI in Social Media Marketing: How VR Integration Helps to Transform Businesses? As far as I know, it's pretty hot right now and I think it could get a lot of attention. How do you look at it?

Anyway, my advice is to connect with your university's chemistry department or find a mentor who could guide you. Embrace this learning journey; it's where innovation often starts.

Re: UCF Marketing Student - Chemistry-Related Question for Project!

The key to achieving this would be selecting or formulating chemicals that can undergo a change in state from solid to liquid or from a dry form to a liquid form when activated by friction or heat. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers typically contain a high percentage of alcohol as the active ingredient. Creating a stable and effective hand sanitizer product involves overcoming challenges related to the right combination of ingredients, stability, shelf-life, safety, and usability. Ensuring that the reaction occurs consistently and reliably with hand rubbing could be challenging.
