For Earth Day this year, we're having kids work on "photosynthesis in a cup", i.e. the floating leaf disc experiment. You can find any number of procedures for the experiment by googling "leaf disc photosynthesis". The experiment works really well and is a great activity to illustrate this year's Chemists Celebrate Earth Day theme: "Plants: The Green Machines".
