The ACS Green Chemistry Institute staff will be participating throughout the ACS Spring 2023 meeting in Indianapolis starting this weekend. We invite you to come talk to us and find out about all of the new activities and developments at the GCI and Office of Sustainability. Additionally, don’t miss all the green chemistry programming at this meeting! Below is a curated list of sessions of interest to the community.
ACS Spring 2023GCI in the Expo
Staff will be at the ACS Booth (look for the “Green Chemistry” kiosk) during Expo hours Monday-Wednesday. We will be holding a raffle and giving away fun prizes and green chemistry swag. Come by and talk to us! In addition, we will have two presentations in the ACS Theatre:
- Monday, 11-11:30 a.m. – “Advancing chemistry innovations with the ACS Campaign for a Sustainable Future” – Come learn how to participate in this new initiative, including learning about the newly launched Grant Program.
- Wednesday, 11-11:30 a.m. – “GreenCEL Platform: Free online tools to help you learn about and implement green chemistry and engineering synthetic methodologies” – Join us to get a first look at the newly launched GreenCEL e-learning platform and toolbox from the ACS GCI Pharmaceutical Roundtable.
GCIPR Workshop
Monday, 1-4 p.m. “Practical Green Chemistry Tools and Techniques for Research and Development Scientists” – Located in Room 127 Indiana Convention Center
This workshop, presented by Dr. Isamir Martinez, ACS GCI, and members of the ACS GCI Pharmaceutical Roundtable, will equip industry-based R&D chemists and engineers as well as graduate students with practical green chemistry tools, methods and metrics. We will cover green chemistry basics through to the most recent innovative tools and metrics widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. The workshop will be tailored toward scientists and engineers working in batch chemical operations in common use within the pharma industry, but the tools may be applied to other allied chemical industries.
What you will learn:
- Fundamentals of green chemistry and engineering.
- Tools that the pharma industry routinely uses to optimize their synthetic chemical processes.
- How to use these tools to make “greener” decisions in synthetic drug design and process development.
- Real-world applications from experienced pharma industry process development chemists.
