Aloha,
This Group is intended for members and aspiring members of the Hawaii section of the ACS. Share your ideas for your local section. Goals for 2015 include: out reach to all our island members, developing a strategic plan, and growing membership and involvement.
The ACS Hawaii Local Section has operated continuously since its chartering in 1922. The Hawaii Local Section hosts the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies (PACIFICHEM), held in Honolulu every five years, most recently in December 2015.

American Chemical Society Local Section Hawai‘i Volunteer Opportunity! Are you a motivated individual looking for a way to get involved with the local science community? Are you older than 18? Are you willing to spend 5-10 hours a month on volunteering and commit for at least one year of service? Are you interested in science communication? Are you a good writer/communicator and a team player? Are you familiar with publishing newsletters, simple webdesign, or major social media platforms? Then the ACS Local Section Hawaii has a great opportunity for you to get involved: We are currently looking for three volunteers to lead the brand new ACS Hawaii Local Section Public Relations Campaign. As part of the campaign we are filling three committee chair positions: Newsletter Editor, Webmaster, and Social Media Coordinator. The committees will be in charge of communication with local section members in (1) a quarterly newsletter, (2) the ACS HI webpage, and more frequently over (3) social media platforms. You will be in charge of your committee's activities while coordinating with Local Section Leadership (LS Chair, LS Secretary, and LS Treasurer) and you will recruit members for your committee as needed. The ACS Local Section will provide you with all required resources. The mission of these three Committees will be to help chemists stay active and involved in our community by providing a forum for networking, communication, and collaboration, and by supporting chemists' efforts to educate their community about chemistry. This is a great opportunity to gain experience with managing a team/committee, building your resume, meeting great people, and making a lasting impact on your local chemistry community. If you would like to volunteer for any of these leadership positions, or have additional questions, please contact us at hiacssecretary@gmail.com. Please include a brief description (a few sentences) of yourself, what position you are interested in and why. We look forward to hearing from you! Dear ACS Hawaii Members, As the life of some of our members are being significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the executive committee of ACS Hawaii decided to repurpose some of its budget and setup a small “Help Fund” to aid affected members. If you are an active ACS member, and you are facing significant financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic that you feel a modest amount would help ($200~$500), please write us an email letter, explain your situation, and include if possible verifiable evidence of your need. The executive committee will review the documents, and send out the help checks to the degree that is possible. If you need non-monetary assistance, the ACS Hawaii can also help get your words out to our membership, if that helps in any way. Please send your email letter and proof to hiacssecretary@gmail.com by 6pm, April 17. Please remember to include your active ACS member ID number for identification purpose. Be safe and healthy!
