Safely dissolving Plastic from a kitchen trash bag
We have a dumb waiter in our home to lift heavy items from our garage to our upstairs kitchen. This is done by a worm drive Genie garage door opener. I put a bag of trash in the dumb waiter and it was sucked into the metal worm (screw) drive and jammed it so it won't budge. Is there a chemical I can spray or drip onto the metal worm screw that will dissolve the plastic and not harm the metal worm screw drive? Sorry for such a ridiculous question but I have no where else to turn.

Re: Safely dissolving Plastic from a kitchen trash bag
There isn’t a safe chemical to dissolve plastic without harming the metal. Instead, disconnect the power, manually remove the plastic with pliers, and use a hairdryer to soften it if needed. Apply a lubricant like WD-40 to loosen the plastic. If possible, gently rotate the screw to dislodge it. Clean thoroughly after removal. If it’s still stuck, call a professional to avoid damaging the dumb waiter or its motor.
