How do I create an ACS ID and access the site?
Welcome to the green chemistry innovation forum!
The first thing you need to do to interact with the forum is to create an ACS ID. You don’t need to be a member of ACS to get an ID.
Once on the green chemistry innovation forum, www.acs.org/gcforum , you will see a welcome message at the top right of your screen asking you to log in or create an ACS ID. Click on create an ACS ID.
You are now on a new ACS page where you will fill in your email, first and last name, ACS member ID (only if you have one), and a username and password of your choosing. Once you have created your ID, go back to the forum homepage www.acs.org/gcforum and check the top right of your screen to ensure you’re logged in with your ID.You are now ready to explore and interact with the green chemistry community.
Do I need to be a member to join the ACS Network?
No, the ACS Network is open to anyone interested in chemistry. The only requirement is that you create an ACS ID, i.e. an account that you use when you log in to the Network.
What can I do on the Green Chemistry Innovation Forum?
The Green Chemistry Innovation Forum is a part of the green chemistry innovation portal, collaboration between the Green Chemistry and Commerce Council and the Green Chemistry Institute.
A few features on the Green Chemistry Innovation forum include:
- Signing up for e-mail updates
- Creating a new discussion
- Replying to an existing post
- Ask a moderator a question
How Do I Create a Discussion?
To create a new post, find the Join the Discussion box located at the top of the forum.
Begin typing your question, and you will notice past posts will pop up. If you see your question or topic of interest displayed, click on that discussion, where you can then add to the conversation.
If you do not see your question or topic, finish typing your title or subject line and click “Start Discussion”.
This will take you to a new page where you can write your post. Before writing your post, look at the line under the title “mark this discussion as a question”. If your post is not a question, please uncheck the box to the left of the line. Proceed to writing your post.
Be sure to scroll to the bottom where you can add tags in the tags box to go along with your post, making it easier for network users to find your discussion. You can also choose a specific category for your discussion. For example, if your conversation is about safer alternatives, click on the safer alternatives box.
You can attach a document or image click on the blue paperclip at the bottom right of the text edit box.
Once you are finished creating your discussion, click on post at the bottom of the page. Your post will then be sent to the forum moderator, who will review and accept your post for the forum.
How do I receive notifications when someone replies to my post or a discussion I am following?
To be notified when someone responds to your discussion or another post that you are interested in, click on the post and select the "Follow" button in the upper right of the post page. Select "Messages" to get an email when there is a new response to the post. If you would like to follow the entire forum, click on the follow button which is located in the forum’s banner.
How do I reply to a post?
To reply to a discussion, click reply on the bottom right of message and write your comment. Please contact The ACS Green Chemistry Institute email@example.com with any further questions or to get help logging into or user the forum.
I want to reply to a discussion or vote in a poll but don't see any options to do so.
Make sure that you are logged in -- the light blue bar should say "Welcome, name". If it says "Welcome, Guest" then you need to log in. Users must be logged in to add, change, or edit content and access any groups which are not open to the public.
