Don’t Be Confused with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease

Blog Post created by SABRINA wanghuanhuan on Jun 10, 2015

Summary

Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, I think, are the diseases for families which can not be accepted. Because these two diseases will make people disabled and painful. However they are not the same disease, they have different factors. Here I will introduce these two diseases for you.

Body

Alzheimer’s

Definition

Alzheimer’s—AD is a neurological degenerative diseases. And the study showed one of the most important factors for this disease is ß-Amyloid peptides’ accumulation. Because of Amyloid Precursor Protein(APP) with several shear, the Aß is generated. In the shear, there are two procedures which is executed by Integral membrane protein—Ý-Secretase, are processed in Membrane.

Cause of disease

  1. 1.       Family history

Most studies on the common diseases showed that family history of this disease is the most dangerous factor. People who have the family history of this disease have the highest risk than other people. And it also found an increase risk of Down’s syndrome prevalence. The further genetic studies have confirmed that the disease might be caused by an automatism dominant gene.

  1. 2.       Some physical illness

Such as Thyroid diseases, immune system diseases, epilepsy were regarded as the factors of this disease to be studied. And many studies have found that a history of depression especially a history of depression in old age is a risk factor for the disease. A recent case-control studies suggest that, in addition to depression, other functional disorders such as schizophrenia and paranoid psychosis also related.

  1. 3.       Head trauma

Head trauma refers to consciousness with a head injury, brain injury as a risk factor for the disease has been widely reported. Clinical and epidemiological studies show that serious brain trauma may be one cause of the disease in some way.

Parkinson’s disease

Definition

Parkinson’s is a common neurodegenerative diseases and mainly found in the elderly, an average age of onset is about 60 years old. This kind of disease’s main pathology is the substantia nigra dopamine the death of degeneration of neurons. Therefore, the striatal DA content significantly reduction then the disease is caused.

  1. 1.       Aging

As the increase of age, the risk of this disease will be increased. It is much more easier for the age of 60 and over 60, which means this has something to do with aging.

  1. 2.       Genetic Factors

Now, researchers are paying more attention to the genetic factors of this disease. Since the discovery of the first factor of this disease--α-synucleinPARK1, there are six factors proved to be associated with this disease.

  1. 3.       Envirnmental factors

Langston, a scholar from America, found that drug addicts will quickly appear typical of to be like parkinson’s disease symptoms, and is valid for levodopa. Study found that drug taking synthetic heroin contains a 1-methyl-4-pheny-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine addicted to neurotoxic substances.

  1. 4.       Other factors

Brain trauma, smoking, drinking coffee and other factors may also increase or decrease the risk of suffering from PD, as well as the factors above.

This is the main difference between these two diseases.
