What goes on in the pool water?

My coworkers and I inspect swimming pools in our area and almost every establishment has asked us how the disinfectants and by products react with each other, why the chloramine concentration in the pool is impossible to lower, how superchlorination actually works, and many other questions about water chemistry.  In all of our training and classes, it seems that no one can specifically describe what is actually happening in the chemical reactions between the disinfectants, indicators, etc. that provide a reasoning for the levels listed in our regulations.

I guess my question would be, does anyone know of reasearch articles available that are specific to POOL water chemistry?  There are articles that deal with water chemistry for drinking water contaminants, but very few that are specific to the pool water.

Thanks!
