I am writing an article about how road salt affects car and has to potential to corrode the undercarriage of a vehicle. I am looking for a brief explanation about:
What is road salt?
How does road salt interact with metals on a car and what does that result in?
What conditions make this interaction worse?
I am writing on a deadline so a prompt response would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help,
Road salt is in most of the cases sodium chloride. Also calcium chloride is used to a lower extent. both are brought out either in solid form or in solution.
The corroding part is the chloride content.
hope that this answers at least a part of your questions.
