Minority Retention Rates in Science Have Much Room for Improvement

African American and Hispanic students enrolled in U.S. colleges are two-thirds as likely as white students to earn bachelor’s degrees in STEM fields within six years, according to a recent article in Science Magazine entitled "Minority Retention Rates in Science Are Sore Spot for Most Universities". Two schools have specifically pinpointed this dilemma and have implemented programs to facilitate the increase of bachelor’s degrees by minority students.
